WHAT IS A PELADA
Pelades are traditional fishermen's houses, built on stilts above sea water in the lagoon of Messolonghi-Aitoliko. Pelades constitute an integral part of the landscape and culture of the Sacred town of Messolonghi. Local fishermen use these houses (Pelades) not only to store their tools but to also protect themselves from unexpected storms. A Pelada is not only used as a shelter but a place where fishermen can relax with their friends to enjoy seafood accompanied with other local food while drinking ouzo and tsipouro.
